Get to Know Us
For more than a decade, Family of God Christian Fellowship has been serving our homeless community in Wicomico and the surrounding rural counties. What began as an act of love toward one person has grown into a mission to reach many.
It started with a young woman named Gwendolyn L. Marshall. Gwen experienced homelessness by choice and through the struggles of mental illness. Her sister, Demetria, the wife of our church’s founder Matthew Leonard Sr, would bring her food and check on her regularly. Over time, they realized that Gwen did not want to leave her friends behind on the streets. Her loyalty and love for her community were too strong.
That simple act of bringing food became the spark for something greater. Family of God Christian Fellowship stepped forward to meet the needs of not just Gwen, but of the entire homeless community. Though Gwen has since passed on, her legacy of compassion continues to guide our work.
Since then, we have fed hundreds of mouths, provided clothing and hygiene supplies, and offered a listening ear and spiritual encouragement. Our mission has taken us into homeless camps, under bridges, and deep into the woods, in all weather conditions, to meet people where they are. Today, this commitment lives on through the SUP Shop, Serving Under Providence, a place of rest, renewal, and direction for those experiencing homelessness.
